What is CPR?

"Cardiopulmonary resuscitation is an emergency medical technology that resuscitates patients

who have fallen into a state of cardiopulmonary dysfunction, and is an emergency medical technology

that all medical personnel and, moreover, all citizens must have."

Cardiac Arrest and CPR
We inform you about cardiac arrest and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The heart is the pump of our body that sends blood throughout the body. Cardiac arrest refers to a state where the heart's pumping function has stopped. When cardiac arrest occurs, blood circulation throughout the body stops, and if blood flow to the brain is lost, serious brain damage can occur. Brain blood flow can cause permanent damage even if stopped for only 4-5 minutes.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation is an emergency treatment method that artificially circulates blood and assists breathing when cardiac arrest occurs. CPR circulates blood even when the heart is stopped,

delaying brain damage and reducing mortality. The sooner CPR is started, the higher the chance of survival, allowing time until emergency responders arrive.

Furthermore, studies have shown that effective CPR increases cardiac arrest patient survival rates approximately threefold compared to cases without CPR. Therefore, if everyone learns CPR and performs it efficiently in emergency situations, countless cardiac arrest patients' lives can be saved. Among those who survive cardiac arrest, most who did not receive effective CPR at the appropriate time suffer from severe brain damage even if they survive.

Even after recovery from brain damage, many cases cannot return to work or social life due to lack of consciousness or inability to recover intelligence from before cardiac arrest.

The CPR we are learning plays a critical role in reducing brain damage in cardiac arrest patients and is ultimately a precious treatment that saves the lives of cardiac arrest patients.

Main Causes of Cardiac Arrest

We inform you about the main causes that trigger cardiac arrest.

The causes of cardiac arrest are diverse. In particular, acute myocardial infarction becomes the most important cause triggering cardiac arrest. Besides, arrhythmia, heart failure, congenital heart disease, drug abuse or malnutrition can also be problems.

At this time, cardiac contraction inactivity causes increased cardiopulmonary survival rates.

Therefore, if you or someone nearby has symptoms of acute myocardial infarction, you should immediately call 119 for help.

โ€ป The symptoms of acute myocardial infarction are as follows.

  1. Discomfort in the chest such as pressure, pain, or tightness lasting more than several minutes.
  2. Symptoms felt in the chest spread to the wrist, jaw, and upper parts of the neck.
  3. Shortness of breath, heart pounding, cold sweat, nausea, dizziness, etc. may occur together.

Daily Heart Health Rules

We inform you about daily heart health rules.

  1. Eat a lot of various vegetables and fruits.
  2. Quit smoking and drink no more than 2-3 drinks per day.
  3. Avoid greasy foods.
  4. Enjoy regular exercise for more than 30 minutes every day.
  5. Prevent and treat early hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia that affect heart chambers.
  6. If middle-aged, get regular health checkups and do not delay treatment if suspicious symptoms occur.
  7. Reduce stress and live with joy.
